With inventions like Global Positioning Satellites and The Hubble Space Telescope, the inventions of the 1990s help us see where we've been and where we're going.     Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, soaring over the desert, Moko and Totemie finally see the blue expanse of the ocean. Then a string of tiny islands covered in green and white. Fascinated by the view, they don't notice the wind picking up. As the wind gets stronger it shakes their kite and Totemie lets go, and Moko lets go as well so she won't fall alone. They fall into the water in a beautiful lagoon which they discover together, their courage rewarded.

In this episode, having made their way beyond the great valley, Moko and Totemie discover a blanket of white stretching out in front of them. An old man tells them that once they get to the other side they will see what so many others have dreamt of seeing, but that they must fly like birds. He offers them a strange kite. As the wind picks up, they hang on tight and fly off from the salt pan.

    Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Mei-Lei takes Moko to the rice fields. The sky is blue and Moko thinks that in this country there just aren't any clouds. Mei-Lei tells him to wait until nightfall, that the rains will dance over the village. Moko doesn't believe her, there isn't a cloud in sight! Suddenly, the sky darkens and Mei-Lei wants to return to the village, but Moko wants to know more. He climbs the hill behind the village to get a better look at the sky. The wind picks up and a great wave of rain washes everything in its wake. Moko and Mei-Lei take shelter from the monsoon behind a rock. To make the rain stop Mei-Lei starts to sing and dance. Bit by bit the rain subsides and the two friends decide to return to the village. Moko thinks that Mei-Lei's dancing was magical and had the power to stop the rain.

In this episode, one morning, Alarick and Moko head into the sea to go fishing. They take a small boat and anchor in the shadow of a great boulder of ice to protect them from the wind. When they wake up they don't recognize their surroundings. The iceberg is drifting along the waves and is dragging their boat along with it. Moko is confident the ocean is showing them where there will be more fish for them to bring back to the village.

    Earth's moon was probably formed when a body the size of Mars collided twice with the planet. The moon is steadily receding into space; eventually, due to the loss of this lunar regulator, Earth will start to wobble, creating climatic chaos. Eclipses can be also seen often when the sun obscures the moon or vice versa. Another light show, the Aurora, occurs when electrified particles from the solar wind interact with Earth's upper atmosphere and is visible particularly in the Polar Regions.

    Space weather can have important consequences for everyday life, such as interference with radio communication, GPS systems, electric power grids, the operation and orientation of satellites, oil and gas drilling, and even air travel as high altitude pilots and astronauts can be subjected to enhanced levels of radiation. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Geomagnetism Program monitors variations in the Earth's magnetic field through a network of 14 ground-based observatories around the United States and its territories, providing data in real-time to a variety of customers.

    Kathryn Johnson, an electrical engineer at the Colorado School of Mines, studies large utility-scale wind turbines. Kathryn’s research aims to make the turbines more efficient in order to capture as much of the wind’s energy as possible. Viewers also visit NSF’s National Center for Atmospheric Research, where scientists are working with local utility companies to create an advanced wind energy prediction system. Using data from sensors mounted on each turbine, the system generates a forecast specific to each turbine on a wind farm. This helps the utility company provide as much energy as possible from clean sources.
